In the second half of the 70s of the 20th Century, a Hong Kong businessman returned to his homeland and invested HK$ 100,000 in setting up a plant in Xintang, Guangzhou for OEM producing jeans, with over 40 second-hand sewing machines being imported from Hong Kong. 20 years later, this small town has boomed with the textile industry, with the total production value being RMB 10.9 billion and the export value exceeding US$ 400 million. The jeans manufacturing industry in Xintang has established its industrial value system that is basically competitive in the market and has a fairly complete professional production system that covers spinning, dyeing, weaving, finishing, printing, garment production, etc.
Currently, Xintang has become the largest jeans production base in China. Nearly half of the jeans sold around the country are made in Xintang and 30% of the jeans exported from China are made in Xintang. This town has nearly 3,000 jeans manufacturers and accessory manufacturers and over 1,000 registered jeans brands. The traveling jobbers engaged in manufacturing industry of jeans in this town amount to over 100,000 people.
The Pearl River Delta in Guangdong province, Changzhou region in Jiangsu province and Zibo region in Shandong province are the three major jeans cloth production bases in China, with the Pearl River Delta being the largest regarding its scale and productivity. According to incomplete statistics, this region has at least 200 jeans dyeing-sizing production lines, approximately 18,000 weaving machines and approximately 40 finishing lines. The yearly jeans cloth production capacity in the Pearl River Delta has exceeded one billion meters which covers 40% of the total production volume of jeans cloths in China, being the leader in China. It has become the largest production base of jeans cloths in China. The major regions for the production of jeans cloths include Xintang of Guangzhou, Dayong of Zhongshan, Jun’an of Shunde, etc. A large number of jeans manufacturers have boomed up in those regions. |
